4-33 Spelling Tip

Compound
words.
When two complete words are combined to form a new word, it is called a compound
word.
Compound words are afternoon, baseball, and whenever. |

aircraft |
any airplane, airship, helicopter, or balloon. |

baseball |
1. a game played with a bat and ball by two teams of
nine players each. 2. the ball used in the game. |

wherever |
any place at all: Sit wherever you like. |

fairground |
a place outdoors where fairs are held. |
5. |
drugstore |
a store where medicines and other things are sold. |
6. |
tablespoon |
a large spoon used in cooking equal to 1/2 fluid ounce. |
7. |
birdbath |
a shallow basin for birds to bathe in or drink from. |
8. |
blackberry |
1. a small black or purple fruit. 2. the
bush it grows on. |
9. |
supermarket |
a large grocery store. You pick out what you want and
pay the cashier on your way out. |
10. |
bridegroom |
a man just married or about to be married. |
