4-32 Spelling Tip

Plurals.
A
plural word means more than one.
We add -es to many words to make them plural.
Plural words with -es are wives, halves, and loaves. |

more than one half. A half is one of two equal parts. |

more than one loaf. A loaf is bread baked as one piece. |

more than one dish. A dish is a container for food. |

cypresses |
more than one cypress. A cypress is an evergreen tree
that grows in swamps. |

catches |
the act of catching: He made two catches during the
game. |

torches |
more than one torch. A torch is a burning stick or a
light which is carried. |

compasses |
more than one compass. A compass is an instrument that
shows directions. |

sandwiches |
more than one sandwich. A sandwich is slices of bread
with meat, jelly, or some other food between them. |

knives |
more than one knife. A knife is a flat piece of steel or
other metal with a handle and a sharp edge. |
