4-32 Spelling Tip
Plurals.
A plural word means more than one.
We add -es to many words to make them plural.
Plural words with -es are wives, halves, and loaves.

 

Words Definitions
1. wives more than one wife.  A wife is a woman who has a husband; a married woman.
2. halves more than one half.  A half is one of two equal parts.
3. loaves more than one loaf.  A loaf is bread baked as one piece.
4. dishes more than one dish.  A dish is a container for food.
5. cypresses more than one cypress.  A cypress is an evergreen tree that grows in swamps.
6. catches the act of catching:  He made two catches during the game.
7. torches more than one torch.  A torch is a burning stick or a light which is carried.
8. compasses more than one compass.  A compass is an instrument that shows directions.
9. sandwiches more than one sandwich.  A sandwich is slices of bread with meat, jelly, or some other food between them.
10. knives more than one knife.  A knife is a flat piece of steel or other metal with a handle and a sharp edge.
