George Washington was a man trusted and admired by the people of the United States.  He served as President of the United States for eight years.  He was the first President.  After he left the office of President, he returned to Mount Vernon to live.  He kept very busy farming and seeing visitors.

The United States has honored George Washington with many things.  A state was named after him.  His face is on a quarter, dollar bill, a stamp and a mountain.  We also built a monument for him called the Washington Monument.
