6-9 Spelling Tip

The suffixes -ian and -ion
The suffixes -ian and -ion are common endings added to many words.  These suffixes do not follow any particular rule.  They are added to nouns (words that name a person, a place, or a thing).
Accordion, sensation, and physician are words with the suffix endings -Ian and -ion.

 

Words Definitions
1. condition to adapt, modify, or mold to respond in a particular way
2. vocation the work a person regularly does, occupation
3. nation a community of people composed of one or more nationalities usually with its own territory and government
4. notion idea
5. mortician undertaker
6. physician a specialist in healing human diseases: a doctor of medicine
7. vacation a period spent away from home or business in travel or amusement
8. possession control of property without regard to ownership
9. fascination to attract and hold by charming qualities
10. tension a state of mental unrest that is often accompanied by physical signs of emotion
