6-14 Spelling Tip

The suffix -ment
When the suffix -ment is added to a word it means: as a result of.
Improvement means the result of being improved.
Resentment means the result of resenting.
The suffix -ment can only be added to a root word that can stand alone.  Improve and resent are both root words that can stand alone.

 

Words Definitions
1. improvement something that adds to the value or appearance
2. judgment a decision given by a court
3. achievement a feat
4. involvement the act of being actively engaged in something
5. assignment a task or duty
6. excitement something that arouses
7. measurement a system of measure
8. payment money given to pay a debt
9. environment surroundings
10. treatment a substance or method used in processing
