5-32 Spelling Tip

Antonyms
Words that have opposite meanings are called antonyms.
Hot and cold, up and down, summer and winter are examples of antonyms.

 

Words Definitions
1. today 1. this day; now:  Today is Saturday.  2. on this day:  Are you going swimming today?
2. tonight the night following today:  I am going to the movie tonight.
3. joyful 1.  glad; happy:  a joyful heart.  2. causing joy:  joyful news.  3.  showing joy:  a joyful look.
4. suffer 1.  have pain, grief, injury, etc.  2.  have or feel (pain, grief, etc.)  3.  experience harm loss, etc.  4.  allow; permit.  5. bear with patiently; endure.
5. wise knowing much; not stupid.
6. foolish without sense: unwise; silly:  foolish notions.
7. rocky likely to rock; shaky:  That table is a bit rocky. 
8. smooth 1. having an even surface without lumps:  a smooth stone, a smooth lake, a smooth road.  2. make even and flat; take out wrinkles and lumps:  She smoothed the towels.
9. united 1. made one; joined; combined.  2. having to do with or produced by two or more.  3. that harmonizes or agrees; in concord.
10. apart 1. in separate parts or pieces:  When I dropped the chair, it fell apart.  2.  away from each other:  Keep the boys apart.   3.  to one side:  That house stood apart from the other houses.
