5-24 Spelling Tip

The prefixes ad-
and de-.
A prefix is part of a word that is placed before
another word.
The prefix ad- means means to. The prefix ad- is
in the word adhere, which means to stick to.
The prefix de- means down, away from, about. The prefix de-
is in the word descend, which means to come down. |

meaning of a noun or pronoun. In "a tiny brook," "The day is
warm," "great happiness," and ' this pencil," tiny, warm, great, and
this are adjectives. |

depend |
1. be a result of; be controlled or influenced by
something else: The success of our picnic will depend partly upon the weather.
2. get support; rely for help. 3. rely trust. |
