5-21 Spelling Tip

Consonant digraphs ch, sh, and th.
A consonant digraph only makes one sound.
The consonant digraph ch is in chimney and chime.
The consonant digraph sh is in shelf and shovel.
The consonant digraph th is in thunder and thumb.

 

Words Definitions
1. cherry 1.  a small, round fruit with a pit.  2.  the tree it grows on.
2. fisherman person who fishes, especially one who makes a living by catching fish.
3. pitcher 1.  a container for liquids.  It has a handle and a place for pouring.  2.  in baseball, the player who throws the ball for the batter to hit.
4. shovel 1.  a tool used to lift and throw dirt or snow or other loose material.  2.  lift and throw with a shovel:  The young man shoveled snow from the walk.
5. thunder 1.  the noise that often follows a flash of lightning.   2.  any noise like thunder:  We heard the thunder of the waves on the rocky coast.  3.  make a noise like thunder:  The train thundered out of the tunnel.
6. flash 1.  a sudden light or flame.  2.  give out such a light or flame:  the light flashed, then disappeared.  3.  come and go quickly:  A deer flashed across the path.
7. sunshine 1.  light or rays of the sun.  2.  brightness; cheerfulness; happiness.
8. shipyard place near the water where ships are built or repaired.
9. tooth 1.  one of the hard, white parts in the mouth, used for chewing.  2.  something like a tooth:  Each sharp point on the edge of a saw is a tooth.
10. thankful feeling or expressing thanks; grateful:  He is thankful for good health.
