5-16 Spelling Tip

Consonant clusters
A consonant cluster is two or more consonant sounds that work so closely together they almost make one sound.
The consonant cluster st in in feast.
The consonant cluster ch is in branch.
The consonant cluster cr is in crust.

 

Words Definitions
1. feast 1.  a big meal for some special party:  We had a big feast on Thanksgiving Day.  2.  eat many good things:  They feasted on chicken.
2. branch 1.  a part of a tree that grows out from the trunk.   2.  one part of something that is divided:  The river divided into two branches.
3. creature any living person or animal.
4. statue a figure sculptured from stone or wood made to look like a person or animal.
5. characteristic 1.  marking off or distinguishing one person or thing from others; special:  Bananas have their own characteristic smell.  2.  a special quality or feature; whatever distinguishes one person or thing from others.
6. grocery 1.  a store that sells food and sometimes things for the house.  2. Groceries may mean food and things for the house.
7. struggled try hard; work hard:  The swimmer struggled through the waves. 
8. gloomy dark and sad:  We felt better as soon as we walked out of that gloomy room.
9. crew 1.  the people needed to do the work on a ship or to row a boat:  The crew takes down the sails.  2.  a group of people working together:  a kitchen crew.
10. fasten hold together or make something hold together:  Fasten the door tight so it won't blow open.  Fasten your seat belt.
