4-7 Spelling Tip
The g sound.
The g sound can sometimes be spelled with a gu.
The g sound is spelled gu in guide and guess.

 

Words Definitions
1. guide 1.  show the way or lead someone:  The compass will guide us back to camp.  2.  a person who leads you or shows the way:  We hired a guide to show us the cave.
2. guess 1.  an idea you have that may not be right:  My guess is that the tree is ten feet high.  2.  think without knowing: I guess it will rain tomorrow.
3. gush 1.  rush out suddenly; pour out.  2. rush of liquid from an enclosed place.
4. gurgle to make a sound like a liquid coming slowly out of a bottle.  Did you hear the gurgle of the river?
5. gust a sudden outburst:  The gust of wind blew the tree over.
6. guy a person.  The guy at the movies was very kind.
7. guitar a musical instrument having six strings.  You play it with your fingers.
8. guilt the fact of having committed the breaking of a law.  The young boy felt much guilt.
9. guitarist one who plays the guitar.
10. guppy a small, brightly colored fish.
