4-19 Spelling Tip
Words with -ear.
Words with -ear that sound like ear are gear and fear.
Words with -ear that do not sound like ear are heart, learn, and bear.

 

Words Definitions
1. earth 1.  the planet on which we live, a great ball that moves around the sun.  2. the part of the earth's surface that is not rock or water:   The earth must be soft for planting seeds.
2. gear a wheel with teeth that fit into another wheel and make it turn.
3. sweat 1.  water coming through the skin:  His face was covered with sweat.  2.  give out water through the skin:  We sweat from working hard.
4. hearth the floor of a fireplace where a fire is made.
5. search 1.  try to find by looking:  We searched everywhere for the book.  2.  go over carefully:  The police searched the house.   3.  the act of searching:  Everybody joined in the search for eggs.
6. clear 1.  clean and free from anything that makes it hard to see:  You can see through clear glass.  2. make clean and free: Clear the table before you go out.
7. earache an ache or pain in the ear.
8. pearl 1.  a white or nearly white jewel that has a soft shine like satin:  sometimes pearls are found inside the shells of oysters.  2. like or of pearl:  She wore a pearl necklace.
9. earthquake a shaking of the earth.
10. bearded having a beard.  Santa Clause is a bearded man.
