3-27 Spelling Tip

Verb endings -ing and -ed.
The verb ending -ing can be added to words ending in y.
The -ing verb ending  is in burying, drying, and buying.
The verb ending -ed can be added to words ending in y by changing the y to an i.
The verb ending -ed is in worried and carried.

 

Words Definitions
1. replied answer someone or something:  He replied to her question.
2. emptying pour out or take out all that is in a thing.
3. studied 1.  learn by reading and thinking:  He studied hard in school.  2. examine carefully:  They studied the footprints for a long time.
4. burying 1.  put in the ground:  The children were burying their pet dog.  2. cover up; hide:  She was burying her head under the covers.
5. copied make something like something else:  She copied the picture from a book.
6. carrying to take from one place to another.
7. marrying to join as husband and wife.  She was marrying her boyfriend.
8. worried something to worry about:  He worried about his sister.
9. trying setting out to do something if you can:  He was trying to build a bridge following the directions
10. hurried drive, carry, send, or move quickly:  He hurried home after the movies.
