3-16 Spelling Tip
|
Verb endings -ed and -ing.
Before
you add -ed or -ing to words that end with
consonant-vowel-consonant, you must double the final consonant as in the words skipped and
skipping and begged and begging.
Before you add -ing to words that end in a consonant
and an -e, you drop the -e as in the words serving and slicing. |

getting |
1. be given; come to have: I hope to be getting a

tasted |
try by taking a little into the mouth: The tasted a
piece of the pizza. |

chopped |
1. cut by hitting with something sharp: The man
chopped down a tree with an ax. 2. cut into small pieces: The cook
chopped an onion. |
6. |
staring |
1. look long with the eyes wide open: She is
staring at the clown. 2. a long look. |
7. |
setting |
put in some place: She is setting the table correctly. |
8. |
chased |
run after to catch. |
9. |
sipped |
drink a little bit at a time: Grandpa sipped his coffee. |
10. |
begged |
ask for something, such as food, clothes, or money: The
dog begged for some food. |
