3-11 Spelling Tip

The s sound.
The s sound can be spelled s in the words see and say.
The s sound can be spelled c in the words city and circus.
The s sound can be spelled ss in the words guess and dress.

 

Words Definitions
1. most 1.  greatest or largest in amount:  Ice-skating is the most fun of all.  He had the most macaroni on his plate.  2.  the greatest amount or number:   We gave the most of any class.  3. almost all:   Most people like music.
2. place 1.  the part of space a person or thing is in.  2.  a city, town, village, island, and so on.  3. a building:  A theater is a place where movies are shown.  4.  a spot:  I have a sore place on my foot.  5. a position:  He won second place.  6.  a space:  Find a place and sit down.  7.  put in a position:  Place the books on the desk.
3. small 1.  not large:  a small dog.  2.  not much:  a small serving of food, a small piece of land.  3.  not important:  a small problem.
4. once 1. one time:  Play that song once more.   2.  at some time in the past:  The plant was once a seed.  3. At once means right now.
5. across 1.  from one side to the other:  It is two miles across this lake.  2. on the other side of:  My house is across the street.
6. certain 1.  sure:  I'm certain of this answer.  2. some but not all:  Certain plants will grow in the desert.
7. person a man, woman, or child.
8. rest 1.  be still:  Rest for a while.  2.  a pause after hard work:  Take a rest for a few minutes.  3.  be held up by:    The roof rests on beams.  4.  what is left; the remainder:  He ate half the apple and threw away the rest.
9. cent 1.  the smallest amount of money of the United States and Canada:  This candy bar cost twenty-five cents.  2.  a coin worth one cent: a penny.
10. else other; different; instead:  Will somebody else carry this for a while?  Shall we go somewhere else tomorrow?  What else could I do?
