Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was a man
of many talents. He studied science, geography, mathematics
and music. He strongly believed in the value of a good
education and wanted to be remembered for founding the University
of Virginia.
Jefferson also studied
architecture and designed his own house, called Monticello.
A picture of Jefferson and Monticello is found on the front and
back of a nickel.
He was only thirty-three
years old when he wrote the famous Declaration of
Independence. He also served in President George
Washington's cabinet and in 1801 was elected the third president
of the United States of America.
Jefferson died on July 4,
1826. This was the fiftieth anniversary of American
independence. The independence Thomas Jefferson was so much
a part of.
