Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson was born in 1907.
Growing up, she lived on a farm in Pennsylvania. She loved to
draw pictures and make books about nature.
When Rachel grew up, she went to college and
studied biology - the science of animals and plants. She
learned a lot about ocean biology.
Rachel had many talents. She knew
about the science of plants, animals, and the ocean. She was
also a very good writer. Silent Spring, a book
she wrote in 1962, was all about chemicals that were poisoning the
land and animals.
Rachel Carson helped people understand
that, "man is a part of nature."
