Rachel Carson

  Rachel Carson was born in 1907.  Growing up, she lived on a farm in Pennsylvania.  She loved to draw pictures and make books about nature.

  When Rachel grew up, she went to college and studied biology - the science of animals and plants.  She learned a lot about ocean biology.

  Rachel had many talents.  She knew about the science of plants, animals, and the ocean.  She was also a very good writer.  Silent Spring, a book she wrote in 1962, was all about chemicals that were poisoning the land and animals.

  Rachel Carson helped people understand that, "man is a part of nature."
