  Texas is located in the south central United States between the Red River and the Rio Grande River.  The capital of Texas is Austin.

    It has many valuable minerals.  Oil has been found in many parts of the state. Texas has become famous for it's many U.S. oil companies.  Another important mineral found in Texas is natural gas.

  Texas also has many beef cattle and sheep farms or ranches.  It grows more cotton than any state in the United States.  Many large crops of rice and peanuts are also grown in Texas.

  Lyndon Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, was born in Texas.
