The Littlest Turtle

Under the sand in a safe dark hole there was a nest of turtle eggs.  They began to hatch.  Dozens of baby turtles appeared.  They wiggled up through the sand and away.   All of them, except the littlest turtle.  He wiggled and wiggled up, up, up and out of the sand.  None of the other turtles were around.  The little turtle heard a voice say, "Go to the sea."

Away he went.  He passed a big, black bug, and a crab sunning itself on the sand.  He passed a spider and a big tree.  He was getting very tired and the sun was getting very hot.  He crawled into the shade under big shell.   He heard the voice say again, "Go to the sea."  He went on and on.

He crawled over more sand and seaweed and little, gray stones.  Then suddenly he felt cold water on his little hot body.  Down, down he swam.  He knew he had made it to the sea!
