Lesson List

With the "Distributive Property of Multiplication", a sum is multiplied by a number.  For example:

4 X (9 + 5)

a.) You can multiply each addend by the number and then add the products.

(4 X 9) + (4 X 5) = 36 + 20 = 56 or

b.) Add then multiply. 4 X (9 + 5) = 4 X (14) = 56

Complete the following:

(5 X 7) + (5 X 3) = 35 +

( X 4 ) + (3 X 4) = 20 + 12

(10 X 4) + ( X 5) = + 45

( X 2) + (8 X 9) = 18 +

(9 X 3) + ( X 7) = + 21

( X 2) + (7 X 7) = 18 + 49

(9 X ) + (9 X 3) = 72 + 27

( X 8) + (4 X 6) = 40 +

(6 X 20) + (6 X ) = 120 + 54

3 X (8 + 21) = (3 X 8) + (3 X )

6 X (8 + 5) = ( X 8) + (6 X 5)

X (2 + 4) = (15 X 2) + (15 X 4)
