With the Distributive Property of Multiplication, a sum is multiplied by a number 4 X (3 + 5)

a.) You can multiply each addend by the number, then add the products:

(4 X 3) + (4 X 5) = 12 + 20 = 32 or

b.) Add then multiply 4 X (3 + 5) = 4 X (8) = 32

Complete the following:

(5 X 6) + (5 X 2) = 30 + ( X 4 ) + (3 X 5) = 12 + 15

(9 X 4) + ( X 5) = + 40 ( X 2) + (8 X 8) = 16 +

(6 X 3) + ( X 7) = + 56 ( X 2) + (7 X 4) = 14 + 28

(9 X ) + (9 X 7) = 81 + 63 ( X 8) + (4 X 3) = 32 +

(6 X 2) + (6 X ) = 12 + 36 3 X (8 + 2) = (3 X 8) + (3 X )

8 X (8 + 5) = ( X 8) + (8 X 5) X (2 + 4) = (5 X 2) + (5 X 4)

X (4 + 6) = (7 X 4) + (7 X 6) 3 X (9 + 2) = (3 X ) + (3 X 2)

5 X (3 + 7) = ( 5 X ) + (5 X 7) 9 X (6 + 5) = ( X 6) + (9 X 5)

1 X (7 + 8) = (1 X ) + (1 X ) 2 X (4 + 8) = ( X 4) + (2 X 8)
