The Area of a rectangle or square is the number of
square units it takes to cover the polygon. To find the area of a
rectangle, multiply the length times the width or L X W = Area. To
find the area of a square multiply side times side or S X S = Area.
Look at the rectangle below.
The L = 9 and the W = 4
9 X 4 = 36
The area is 36 square units.
Look at the square below.
The S = 5
5 X 5 = 25
The area is 25 square units.
