The numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ... are called whole numbers. When we
call them "whole numbers," we mean they are not fractions.
A number such as 2 1/2 is a mixed number. There is a whole number and a fraction.
2 is the whole number and 1/2 is the fraction. It is read as "two and
one half." When you read a mixed number you always need to place
the word
"and" between its whole number part and its fraction part.
