3-96 Dividing Two-Digit Numbers

When you divide a two-digit number, the quotient may have two digits.  In division, you start with the higher place value in the dividend and move right.

Look at the problem below.  Divide 42 by 2.

First, divide the 4 in the tens place value by 2.

2 X 2 = 4

4 - 4 = 0

Bring down the 2 in the ones place value.
