You can find the area of a rectangle by multiplying the base times the height.  Look at the example below.

  There are 7 square units in each row.  
There are 3 rows
of square units.
3 cm
  7 cm  
You can multiply 3 times 7 to find the area of the rectangle.

3 x 7 = 21 square centimeters

 

 
The area of a rectangle is found by multiplying the base X height.
The formula for the area of a rectangle is base X height = Area
b x h = A
