Numbers

 

A line segment gets its name from letters assigned to the end points.  Look at the line segment below.  The line segment is called RS.

A closed figure that is formed by 3 or more line segments is called a polygon.  Look at the polygon below.

The point where two line segments meet is called the vertex.  (The plural of vertex is vertexes or vertices.)  Like all points, the vertices are named by a letter.  In the figure above the vertices are A, B, C, and D.  You can name a polygon by starting at a letter and moving around the figure.  The polygon above could be called ABCD or BCDA.  You may start at any letter and move around the polygon to give it a name.  You may also go in any direction.

The polygon above may be called the following names.

ABCD BCDA CDAB DABC
ADCD DCBA CBAD BADC

 

A circle is not a polygon.

 

Look at the figures below.  Write "Yes" if the figure is a polygon and write "No" if the figure is not a polygon.
