3-18 Numbers to Ten Thousands

As you're learning how to build and recognize numbers you're also learning to count to 100.

Now you can also count by 100s like this: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900.  1,000 comes next!

Remember that 10 hundreds are the same as 1,000.  Notice that a comma is added.  Count three places over from the right and then add a comma. Example: 1,000

The number 1,000 has four digits. The number 10,000 has five digits.  You can now learn the place value of the digits in four-digit and five-digit numbers.  Look at the table below.

1  The one is in the ones place value.

10  The one is in the tens place value.

100  The one is in the hundreds place value.

1,000  The one is in the thousands place value.

10,000  The one is in the ten thousands place value.
