When you measure something to find out how much it weighs you use ounces and pounds.  An ounce does not weigh very much.  There are 16 ounces in 1 pound.

An ounce weighs a little more than a fifty cent piece.

You can buy butter in a 1 pound package. You can buy sugar and flour in 5 pound and 10 pound packages.  You can write pound like this - lb.

Think of things that weigh about a pound (lb.).  A kitten, a book, a pillow.
