Mike likes stars.  He looks for stars everywhere he goes.  If Mike counted 10 stars last night in the sky and he saw 14 stars tonight in the sky, how many stars did Mike see in all?

Jill owns three pets.  Jill has a turtle, a cat, and a bird.  Jill took her pets to the fair.  One of the pets won first place.  The pet that won first prize can't fly and does not have a shell.

Jan wanted to count only the odd numbers on a number chart.  She found the smallest odd number and the largest odd number from the chart below.

She counted the odd numbers.
