5-18 Complete & Simple Predicate

The complete predicate of a sentence includes all the words after the subject that tell what the subject of the sentence is or does.  The simple predicate is the main word or words in the complete predicate.

Look at the sentence below.  The complete predicate of the sentence is: "chased us in the field."  The simple predicate is: "chased."

The big bull chased us in the field.

 

Identify and type the complete predicate for each sentence below.  Next identify the simple predicate.  (Be sure to place  a period at the end of the predicate.)

 

The woman opened the door of the car.
