How the Human Heart Works

Can you feel your heart beating?  Put your hand on your chest and you can feel it beating.  It is beating all the time.  It pumps blood through tubes that run all through your body.  The tubes are called veins and arteries.  The blood goes through the veins and arteries, and your heart.  Your heart is the pump that keeps the blood moving or circulating (circulating means going round and round).

If you run very fast your heart beats faster and pumps blood faster.  Even while you are asleep your heart is working.
